Business Development & Sales Specialist-Landscaping

Position Summary:

A proven sales professional who will be responsible for sales and growing the business with a strong focus on landscaping and snow removal maintenance contract sales.  This is a new business development professional who will leverage their expertise and experience in the Green Industry to identify leads and opportunities, cultivating new relationships with potential new clients to generate new business for the exterior services (landscaping and snow removal) division of the company.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Identify and prioritize target markets and prospective clients within the landscape industry.
  • Build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, including property and facility managers, board members, developers, procurement managers, and property owners.
  • Lead generation, identifying and adequately qualifying business opportunities.
  • Lead negotiations, complex decision-making process, and overcoming objections to closure.
    • Conduct thorough needs assessments and site evaluations to understand client requirements and project specifications.
    • Collaborate with internal teams, including design, estimating, and operations, to develop innovative landscape solutions that meet client needs and budgetary constraints.
    • Prepare and deliver compelling sales presentations and solutions that effectively communicate the value proposition of our exterior services department.
  • Provide comprehensive proposals, pricing and respond to formal RFQ and RFP’s.
    • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with clients to secure profitable business agreements aligned with operations budget.
  • Building and maintaining positive, meaningful relationships that result in long term sustainable business.
  • Assist in the creation, implementation, and distribution of corporate marketing programs/campaigns and collateral materials.
  • Conduct market research and evaluation.  Know and understand the competition, their strengths and weaknesses and we compare.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, join and actively participate in professional business organizations and industry specific associations such as BOMA, IFMA, IREM, ASHE, etc.
  • Actively participate in business networking events, trade shows and give presentations.
  • Entertain clients and prospects during and after normal business hours with meals, sporting events, concerts, etc.
  • Works closely with the operations team to maintain client relationships, tenant, and customer satisfaction.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of sales activities, pipeline management, and client interactions using CRM software.

Education and skills required:

  • High school graduate
  • Bachelor’s or Associate's degree in business administration, Marketing, Landscape Architecture, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in professional sales and new business development preferably within the exterior services (landscaping and snow removal) industry including Exterior Maintenance Services to businesses that vary in size but mostly are large commercial / corporate campuses, retail shopping centers and health care facilities, with contracts of $50,000 or more. 
  • Proven sales experience, ability to generate new business and documented success
  • Minimum of 5 years of operations or account management in the commercial landscape and snow removal industry.
  • Strong understanding of the landscape industry, including emerging trends, customer needs, and buying trends.
  • Ability to sell and win business in a competitive environment with acceptable margins.
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Prior experience with incentive-based compensation such as sales commissions, etc.

Physical Demand Requirements

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs., walk job sites and perform property surveys, and work in all types of weather.
  • Be available to respond 24/7 with the ability to respond quickly and with a sense of urgency.

  • Must possess current Michigan driver’s license and maintain satisfactory driving record.
  • Must submit to, and successfully pass, background checks: including drug, credit and criminal history.
